Genius loci: The Use of Language in Architecture

{~ '2020-06-18 00:00:00' | amDateFormat: 'D/M' ~} {~ '19:00' ~}

Two short lectures followed by a panel discussion with Petr Gibas and Ana Carreño Fernández-Travanco (online stream).

In the specific context of the post-industrial heritage, we will look at aspects of the use of language in architecture, such as the appropriation of the expression genius loci by real-estate developers, through leaving fragments of facades or chimneys. We will question its definition by Norberg-Schulz and wonder how it impacts on a possible narrative of artifice/spectacle. How are aesthetics and other categories of experience reflected in the language, and possibly also purposefully translated into it?

Questions will both be asked by the curators of the exhibition Karlin Ex/Change and the audience.
